250913 - “Side-Eye” Saturday

Classical music and fitness complement each other so well. The foray back into fitness content is in full swing:

One of the benefits of shooting repeatedly at the at the same space is that there is no pressure to produce a good shot. These shoots are for me to hone my craft and feed my creative pursuits. One aspect that I am quickly learning is switching between camera modes; from Photo to Video to S&Q (slo-mo) and back. Let me nerd out for a second:

Action photos require a shutter speed of 1/500th second or higher to achieve a sharp image. My sweet spot is around 1/640 - 1/800 which is fast, but not so fast that it blows up the “noise” too much; that speckle stuff you get which reduces the image quality. Switching to Video requires 1/50th shutter speed at 25 FPS (180 degree shutter rule) and 1/100th shutter speed at 50 FPS for slow motion. Don’t get me started on Log footage…

In order to capture 3 types of content, you need to be on top of your settings and understand your camera modes. You have to think on the spot and decide which of the 3 mediums you’re going to shoot, then make sure you have your settings right. Because shooting action at 1/50th will end up being a blurry mess, and videoing at 1/800th second will produce choppy footage.

Remember the 5 P’s: Practice Parts Promotes Perfect Performance.

Here’s a small gallery from today’s Side-Eye Saturday. Why “Side-Eye Saturday”? That’s what I capture when you see me out of the side of your eye.

P.S. For those who were at the session, the gallery is available for free download at the bottom of the page :)

“Side-Eye Saturday” Gallery can be viewed HERE. You’ll need to log in for the free download.

One final thing: TAG THE PHOTOGRAPHER if you use it on social media! It’s a free photo. The least you can do is tag the creator. Please and thank you.

If you’d like to understand why you should tag the photographer, here’s why.
