251012 - Double Trouble
It’s been a busy couple of weeks juggling work and travel up and down the coast after the passing of my Dad. To be honest, it’s been a difficult few weeks and I’m emotionally drained, so getting a few hours to get creative is a nice break for my brain. I’m also ready to get my camera back in the water and capture some surf content again. Shooting surf requires a lot of preparation; more than what my mind has been willing to tolerate lately. Plus, having my legs dangling underwater at the same beach where the fatal shark attack happened makes you think twice about your choices.
This adventure back into gym and fitness photography has, unexpectedly, refined my personal style. I previously mentioned that I developed some Lightroom Presets while in Thailand called “Phuket” and “Phuket B&W” which is what I have been using as the base colour grade when editing gym & fitness content. This is now my go-to for most of my (personal) photos. The preset is a base; I then manipulate the photo depending on what is needed e.g. always geometry, highlights, shadows etc.
Yesterday = Two gym shoots back to back. Same formula: 1 camera, 1 lens and get creative.
The first shoot was at Tribe Headquarters, Brookvale. This gym photographs really well, and the vibe of the members is always high.
The second shoot was at The Cube Gym. I’ve been capturing their team training in the lead up to Turf Games on the Gold Coast.
I appreciate the feedback I receive when people like my photos. If downloading and sharing a photo, please show your appreciation by including @mrdanielcook as the photographer in the photo description when you post. Attribution is an important part of social media and as the creator of the work, it helps your followers know who the artist is. I might even get some work out of it, which means I can take more photos and that’s a win-win for everyone.
For those who were are the Tribe HQ session, the download link is the “B” in Brookvale above.
For those who were at The Cube Gym session, the download link is the “G” in Gold Coast above.
Good luck to everyone from both gyms who are competing at Turf Games next week.
