260214 - The start/stop life of a creative

As soon as you think things are slowing down, they ramp up again. That’s my fault for putting out into the universe that I had a gap between shoots and didn’t feel like I was using my time wisely. To counter what I thought was going to be a slow period, I re-registered to complete my sub-7kg Drone Pilot licence; something I studied for pre-Covid then never sat the test (stupid).

Then this week happened… Five video shoots, one last minute photo shoot, 16 video edits ranging from 15-60sec each in landscape and reframed in portrait, and I postponed another due to time contstraints. Looks like study will take a back seat for the next week or so.

I’m lucky to say that I’ve thoroughly enjoyed everything I’ve worked on this week. Working for and with good people who trust you creatively is motivating. And as a creative, having someone trust your vision and then like the result is the ultimate reward. It makes you want to be better and do more for your client.

On to the photo making…

I was invited to shoot at Chocolate Box Training yesterday (Friday 13th); somewhere I’ve been wanting to shoot for a while as I have a bunch of friends that go there and I’ve heard nothing but good things about the space. The space was cool, the people were friendly and the space was photogenic; exactly what a frothing photographer is looking for.

I’ll include a few captures from the warm up (PRE) which I took with the Leica Q3 43 and the WORKOUT, taken with the Sony A7RV + 85mm GM2. The rest will be up on my pic-time gallery.

I’m still sticking to my “1 focal length” rule for gym shoots, being the 85mm prime (no zoom). The PRE-workout is more like Street Photography for me, hence using the Q3 43 (43mm). I enjoy capturing people in the environment, rather than it being action Sports Photography.

Thanks to everyone I worked with, for and took photo/video of. You’re the real heros. I’m merely an observer, recording you write your story.
